What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a traditional hands-on Japanese healing therapy.  It can help in a wide range of conditions, from specific injuries to general symptoms of poor health. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular sessions can help in improving general health and  well-being.

Shiatsu for mind and body

Conditions that have been helped by Shiatsu:

Back pain

Headaches, migraine

Whiplash injuries and neck stiffness

Joint pain and reduced mobility

Background to Shiatsu:

The philosophy underlying Shiatsu is that vital energy (known as Ki in Japanese) flows throughout the body in channels called meridians, as in Acupuncture.  For many reasons Ki can stop flowing freely and this then produces a symptom. Shiatsu is a holistic therapy that works on the physical body and also on the emotional and mental levels.

The Shiatsu practitioner uses a variety of techniques to improve the energy flow:

This includes holding, pressing with the palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees or feet along the meridians and rotations and gentle stretches.

Guidelines for receiving Shiatsu:

Wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing, preferably cotton.

Do not drink alcohol before or after treatment

After treatment, drink plenty of water

If at all possible avoid strenuous activity after your treatment

           (applicable after a full treatment).

Treatments take place sitting on a stool or on a futon on the floor.

Try a taster Shiatsu of 15 minutes for £15 (must be booked)

Or a full treatment up to 60 minutes (must be booked) for £40

We are able to include taster or full sessions for your horse at a variety of clinics throughout the UK. With full sessions will demonstrate simple exercises you can perform on your horse at home.

‘the epitome of a well schooled dressage horse will have impulsion, be straight, supple,     well-balanced, rounded and happy in its work. The epitome of a good rider is one who looks in harmony with their horse, is elegant with a relaxed body to allow free movement, one who is balanced from their centre and one who applies subtle aids’

This will takes years of hard work from both human and equine......

‘….we humans do not realise we are stiffening our hips or right shoulder, then we create faults in our horse or exacerbate existing ones by blocking the very movement we are trying to teach……to enjoy the journey we should recognise and be satisfied with small improvements..’

Treatments can be at a variety of Locations throughout the UK at existing clinics or at our base in Northampton. New treatment rooms opening later this years in Northamptonshire.
